A fire broke out in a five-story house in Hanoi just minutes after the Lunar New Year’s Eve countdown on Wednesday, prompting a swift response from firefighters who successfully rescued three trapped residents, including a child.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:07 am on Wednesday in an alley on An Xa 75 Street, Phuc Xa Ward, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi, according to the city’s police department.
The fire erupted on the second floor of the 46-square-meter house, producing thick smoke and intense flames that endangered the occupants.
Upon receiving the emergency call, the district’s firefighting and rescue team dispatched two fire trucks and 12 firefighters and rescuers to the scene.
They quickly assessed the situation and identified a high risk of fire spread due to the presence of flammable materials.
Additionally, they confirmed that people were trapped inside the burning building.
Firefighters prioritized the rescue operation, coordinating with local police and residents to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.
Their timely efforts resulted in the successful rescue of two adults and a child, who were then transferred to a medical facility for treatment.
All three victims are reported to be in stable condition.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by fireworks, a common celebratory activity during Tet.
Authorities are continuing their investigation and have urged residents to exercise caution when handling fireworks and other flammable materials during the festive period.
Earlier at around 7:00 am on Tuesday, another fire occurred at a row of workshops on Nguyen Van Giap Street in Cau Dien Ward, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi.
Local firemen operating 12 fire trucks stamped out the blaze after 45 minutes. The incident caused no casualties but destroyed 500 square meters of workshops and two cars.
