-- Philemon Yang, President of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, appointed Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the UN, as a co-facilitator for the preparation of the UN High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response in 2026, the Vietnam News Agency reported on Tuesday.

-- Party General Secretary To Lam visited the National Cyber Security Centre under the Ministry of Public Security’s Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, as well as the Command Center of the Ministry of National Defense’s Air Defense-Air Force Service on the evening of January 28 – Lunar New Year’s Eve. Later that evening, the Party leader visited and extended Tet wishes to representatives of the Party Committee, administration, and people of Hanoi.

-- At midnight on Lunar New Year’s Eve, Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong extended his New Year's greetings to people across the country and the Vietnamese community abroad. "I would like to extend my warmest New Year wishes to all compatriots, comrades, and soldiers throughout the country, as well as to overseas Vietnamese. I also wish our friends and the people of countries around the world a New Year filled with peace, happiness, friendship, and development," he said.

-- A large fire broke out in a residential area in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City at around 1:00 pm on Tuesday, burning down several houses and causing many people inside to flee. Local firefighters and fire trucks were deployed to the scene, rescued one person, and extinguished the blaze by 2:20 pm. The fire caused no casualties.

-- On Tuesday evening, the High Command of Naval Region 4 held an online celebration connecting its headquarters with seven locations in the Spratly Archipelago and nearby naval vessels. Rear Admiral Nguyen Anh Tuan and Colonel Bui Xuan Binh delivered New Year greetings from senior leaders. The event included leaders, commanders, and representatives from seven families of service members stationed on the islands and vessels.

-- On Tuesday evening, secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen led a delegation to visit and encourage police units on duty during the Tet holiday in the city. Nen expressed gratitude for the tireless dedication of the police officers and soldiers, who remained on duty to maintain order and security, allowing citizens to celebrate the Lunar New Year joyfully and peacefully.

-- The Hanoi-based Railway Transport Joint Stock Company operated two special trains called the 'Spring Train,' traveling between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa, on Tuesday evening. On these trains, the railway sector arranged two uniquely and beautifully designed community carriages to host cultural activities, allowing passengers to celebrate Tet throughout the journey.

-- On Tuesday evening in major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, and Da Nang, the streets began bustling with people and vehicles heading to central areas to watch the Lunar New Year’s Eve fireworks and countdown to welcome the Lunar New Year (Tet). In Ho Chi Minh City, large crowds of locals and tourists, including foreigners, gathered at Nguyen Hue Flower Street to immerse themselves in the vibrant and festive atmosphere of the Tet celebrations.
