Two suspected robbers were arrested about an hour after attempting to rob a bank with a gun and stabbing a 50-year-old bank security guard to death in Da Nang City, central Vietnam on Wednesday afternoon, according to local police.
The bank robbery occured at a branch of the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) at 169 Ngu Hanh Son Street in My An Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang.
In particular, at about 1:45 pm, two armed men, wearing hoodies and face masks, arrived at the bank on a motorbike.
After entering the bank, Tran Van Tri, 22, a resident of Hoa Vang District, Da Nang, fired a warning shot, while Nguyen Manh Cuong, a 25-year-old resident of Que Son District in neighboring Quang Nam Province, threated the tellers with a knife.
When bank staff and security tried to intervene, the two assailants attempted to flee, but a group of bankers and local residents managed to catch Tri.
T.V.T., a 50-year-old security guard at the bank, chased Cuong but was attacked and injured. Cuong managed to flee the scene.
Local police arrested Cuong at 2:30 pm the same day after tracking him to Vo Nguyen Giap Street in Son Tra District.
T. later passed away at the Da Nang Hospital for Women and Children at around 3:00 pm.
As of 3:30 pm the same day, the municipal police and the People’s Procuracy were still examining the scene of the robbery.

They wound up meeting through social media and eventually moved in together to a rented room in Lien Chieu District, Da Nang.
They had initially planned to burglarize local households but instead decided to rob banks.
Cuong bought a gun online and prepared a knife, backpacks, and hoodies for the heist.
