Two 18-year-old girls on a motorcycle were struck by a north-south train when they were trying to cross the track in Phu Yen Province, south-central Vietnam on Monday morning, leaving one dead on the spot and the other badly injured.
The fatal accident happened at around 9:00 am when the passenger train driven by Vien Dinh T. was traveling toward Hoa Da station in An My Commune of Tuy An District, where there are automatic railway barriers.
Suddenly, the train collided with a motorcycle which was crossing the railway track, causing T.A.T. on the motorbike to die on the spot and T.T.N.Q. to sustain severe injuries.
The motorbike was badly damaged after being crushed by the train.
Local competent forces were dispatched to the scene to cope with the aftermath.
Subsequently, the train continued its journey to Tuy Hoa station, also located in Phu Yen, to drop off and pick up passengers.
Preliminary findings from authorities showed that the two girls on the bike intentionally crossed the track when the train was approaching, leaving little room for the train driver to stop the train.
By 12:00 pm the same day, the Phu Yen General Hospital announced that the injured victim sustained severe traumatic brain injury, dilated pupils, crushed foot injuries, with a bad prognosis.
The victim was then transferred to another hospital in neighboring Binh Dinh Province upon her family’s request.
