Unrelenting scorching waves have dogged people in Ho Chi Minh City over the past few days, urging them to find ways to shield themselves against direct sunlight.

Many laborers who work outdoors are seeking to rest under a bridge, in the shade of roofs, or in a park during the hot weather.

After finishing a ride from Ho Chi Minh City’s outlying district of Binh Chanh to Kieu Bridge spanning District 1 and District 3, Hung, a motorbike taxi driver of a ride-hailing app, took a rest under a house roof on Truong Sa Street in Phu Nhuan District to protect himself from the sun on Saturday.

“It has been extremely hot these days,” Hung said.

“I normally bring a bottle containing 1.5 liters of drinking water with me a day, but over the past two days, I have had to drink an additional lemon juice and iced tea to revive each day."

Under Ba Son Bridge in downtown Ho Chi Minh City was a family lying on a sleeping plastic sheet for a nap at noon on Saturday, while some other workers took a rest in hammocks in the shadows of the trees near a bank of the Saigon River as the temperatures reached 35 degrees Celsius.

Several parks in the city such as Tao Dan and September 23 have been crowded with people in baking weather this February.
