-- On Monday, southern Vietnam experiences persistently hot conditions, with some areas facing severe heat, while a new cold front is expected to end humid air in the north starting from the evening, according to the national weather forecast center.

-- The Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau has submitted an urgent document to the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, requesting over VND440 billion (US$17,800) in funding to address drought, saltwater intrusion, and develop fresh water supply projects.

-- The People’s Committee of the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap has issued a warning stating that 12 communes across three northern districts are facing the threat of drought and water shortages, with approximately 30,200 hectares of rice fields and 298 hectares of vegetable and crop fields prone to adverse impacts by the lack of water.

-- For years, numerous wastewater channels in Bac Ninh Province have been clandestinely discharging into the Cau River, resulting in significant pollution that adversely impacts the livelihoods of residents in both the northern industrial province and its similarly industrial neighbor, Bac Giang Province, according to Pham Van Son, director of the Vietnam Environmental Incident Response Center.

-- A grass fire in Saigon Hi-Tech Park in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City caused coal dust from the flames to scatter approximately 7km late on Sunday afternoon.

-- Ca Mau residents recently caught a yellow eel and a blue crab, marking the second yellow eel and third odd colored crab found in the locality in recent months.

Education

-- More than 2,000 Vietnamese candidates joined the national qualifying round of the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) World Championship in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang after its opening ceremony was held in the Vietnamese capital on Sunday. After the national round, the six best candidates will become MOS Vietnam Ambassadors to participate in the world finals set to take place at the end of July in California.

-- Uber has agreed to pay A$271.8 million ($178.3 million) to settle a lawsuit in Australia brought by taxi operators and drivers, who alleged they lost income when the ride-hailing company moved into the country, Reuters quoted a law firm as saying on Monday.

-- China’s rapidly aging population is fuelling a promising and fast-growing market for companies providing recreational classes and activities for the elderly middle class, from yoga to African drumming and smartphone photography, Reuters reported.
