The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security attaches great importance to cooperation and exchange activities with research institutes and centers of Harvard University, Minister To Lam said during a reception for Professor Thomas J. Vallely, senior advisor for mainland Southeast Asia at Harvard Kennedy School, in Hanoi on Monday.
Minister Lam said the cooperation between his ministry and IT companies from the U.S. can bring significant benefits in improving capacity to prevent and combat cyberthreats, developing cybersecurity measures, and improving the effectiveness of fighting cybercrime in Vietnam.
Both parties agreed that relevant agencies from Vietnam and the U.S. have conducted many dialogue sessions to enhance cooperation in cybersecurity.
They have also facilitated the signing of cybersecurity documents between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the U.S. National Security Council, as well as the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council.
Minister Lam affirmed that the cooperation with Harvard University would help deal with challenges in high-skilled manpower training and cybersecurity and new technology-related legal framework development.
The collaboration between the Ministry of Public Security and Harvard University will be a demonstration of the cooperation between Vietnam and the U.S. after the two countries upgraded their relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership last year, Lam added.
Professor Vallely spoke highly of the cooperation between U.S. law enforcement agencies and the Ministry of Public Security, stressing that Vietnam holds many opportunities to deploy and develop AI infrastructure.
He expressed his delight at the existing cooperation between Hanoi and Washington in combating cybercrime, hoping for continued thriving collaborations in the future.
