Authorities in Vung Tau City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, southern Vietnam are verifying a report saying that a local eatery sold four Japanese scallops for more than VND1.4 million (US$56).
A leader of the administration in Ward 2, Vung Tau City said on Sunday that they had worked with the eatery owner.
Earlier, an anonymous social media user shared that the eatery, named O.D. on Hoang Hoa Tham Street, Ward 2, was selling four Japanese scallops for more than VND1.4 million and called on others to avoid this eatery.
The post featured a photo of a bill listing Japanese scallops grilled with scallion oil and stingray hotpot, with a total cost of over VND1.7 million ($68).
The Japanese scallops were priced at VND1.2 million ($48) per kilogram, and the group ordered 1.2 kilograms, bringing the total cost to more than VND1.4 million.
Vu Phuong Hao, chairwoman of the Ward 2 administration, stated that the restaurant had clearly displayed its prices and provided the necessary operational documents, including invoices for ingredient purchases.
The restaurant purchased Japanese scallops at VND920,000 ($37) per kilogram.
Ward 2 authorities have reported the case to Vung Tau officials, noting that they have yet to determine whether the restaurant overcharged the tourists.
