Buddhist flags and lotus-shaped lanterns now adorn every corner of Ho Chi Minh City, particularly gracing most pagodas with a burst of color, in celebration of Buddha's Birthday on the full-moon day of the fourth lunar month, falling on May 22 this year.

Buddha’s Birthday is an important annual Buddhist event, bringing together monks, nuns, and Buddhists to pray for world peace, happiness, and prosperity.

Several prominent pagodas in the southern metropolis, including Phap Hoa, Vinh Nghiem, Hai Duc, and Quan Am, have been adorned with strings of flags, fabric lotuses, and lanterns in preparation for the celebration.

Flowers and flags embellish all the routes near the city's pagodas.

A series of programs will be taking place during the week of Buddha’s Birthday in 2024.

Buddhist followers, locals, and tourists can participate in Buddha processions and lantern release ceremonies at Phap Hoa Pagoda in District 3, Dieu Phap in Binh Thanh District, and Vietnam Quoc Tu, or National Pagoda of Vietnam, in District 10.

In Vietnam, Buddhists traditionally celebrate Buddha’s Birthday with grand programs often organized by pagodas to commemorate this significant event.

While taking part in these programs, Buddhist followers will spend time reviewing the Buddha’s birth and life, the history of Buddhism, as well as his teachings.
