Border guards in Quang Tri Province, north-central Vietnam caught five Lao nationals transporting 100 bricks of heroin from Laos to Vietnam last week, Le Van Phuong, commander of the Quang Tri Border Guard, said on Monday.
Among these drug traffickers were students.
The Vietnam Border Guard teamed up with the province’s forces to break up a transnational drug ring, catching the traffickers red-handed transporting narcotics from Laos into Vietnam through La Lay International Border Gate in Dakrong District at 4:30 pm on May 23.

The five drug smugglers were identified as Phitsamay Kolasak, 24, and Thiplatda Bounsalat, 23, who are both students, Noutta Mixay, 31, Boun Xoun Leovanh, 47, and Khene Leovanh, 30.

The gang admitted that a Laotian hired them to transport the bricks of heroin from the Laotian capital city of Vientiane to Dong Ha City, Quang Tri Province.
After their trafficking, they would be paid US$3,000.
The Vietnamese border guards are expanding the probe into the ring to arrest other relevant subjects.
