Two whales were spotted in the waters of Mai Nha Island in Phu Yen Province, south-central Vietnam on Thursday afternoon.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Thursday evening, Nguyen Thanh Vuong, residing in the province’s Tuy An District, said that he saw the two whales at around 3:00 pm and used a drone to take photos of them.
He described these marine mammals as quite large and black, elaborating that they constantly came to the water surface to hunt for food before diving into the sea.

Major Nguyen Bao Lan from the An Hai border guard office under the Border Command of Phu Yen confirmed the appearance of the two whales in the location.
Pods of whales might migrate to other waters, including Phu Yen, after their safe and sheltered locations were disturbed by storms or other environmental incidents, Dao Quang Minh, head of the provincial Fisheries Sub-Department, elaborated on why whales have been frequently sighted off the coast of Phu Yen in recent weeks.
The appearance of the sea creature in certain waters indicated that the marine habitat there is rich in food, Minh added.

Three days later, Huynh Thanh Binh, aged 47 and residing in Phu Yen, filmed a whale hunting off the waters around the Mai Nha Island.
