As the smartphone market heats up ahead of Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year), with phone companies launching new products featuring innovative technologies and attractive features, Vietnamese consumers are embracing artificial intelligence (AI) applications in smartphones.
Many new AI features in smartphones are making everyday tasks more convenient and professional for Vietnamese users.
In particular, the AI-powered camera race is helping users capture stunning photos effortlessly before and during Tet celebrations, which fall on January 29.
In the bustling area around the Youth Cultural House in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Khanh Huyen, from District 4, and her friends happily took photos with their smartphones.
“Before, we had to hire a photographer or ask someone with a professional camera to follow us, which was inconvenien,” Huyen said.
“Now, with just a smartphone, we can take photos in any style we want.”
One of the standout features on her new phone is the built-in AI camera application.
“I just choose the right angle, and the phone automatically adjusts settings to take the best photo. It’s amazing!” Huyen shared excitedly.
Tech enthusiasts are equally impressed by these AI advancements.
“Taking photos with AI assistance is fantastic,” commented Phan Quoc, a representative from the GenZ Viet tech review channel on YouTube.
“In the past, we had to carefully watch for unwanted people in the frame, but now the AI removes them for us automatically, ensuring a perfect shot.”
Competing to integrate AI features
Many smartphones on the market now feature AI-powered cameras.
For instance, the iPhone 16 series includes Apple Intelligence with smart subject removal, allowing users to effortlessly eliminate unwanted objects from photos while preserving the main subject.
Oppo’s Find X8 series, equipped with a generative AI model, allows users to capture crystal-clear photos even at 120X magnification.
Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 14 Pro features several AI camera tools, including AI Image Expansion for enhanced backgrounds, AI Erase Pro for quickly removing unwanted objects, and AI Sky for background alterations.
AI is also transforming other smartphone features.
The new Honor X9c series, for example, introduces the Magic Capsule for multitasking, allowing users to reply to messages, check calendars, and adjust music without leaving the current app.
The Parallel Space feature offers a secure, independent space to separate work and personal life.
Oppo’s Reno13 series uses AI to turn static photos into high-quality videos in just three seconds.
The series also includes a Vietnamese AI tool for summarizing content, an AI note-taking assistant, and an AI toolbox with smart voice translation and auto-reply functions.
The iPhone 16 series is equipped with a Visual Intelligence tool that uses AI to identify objects in real time, providing information such as restaurant hours, reviews, and menus simply by pointing the camera at them -- an impressive integration of augmented reality (AR) and AI.
“Users are increasingly drawn to new features that enhance their smartphone experience,” said Anh Hong, marketing director of hi-tech retailer 24hStore.
“AI is no longer just a trend but a practical tool that supports everyday tasks, from photo editing and document summarization to real-time translation.”
As AI becomes more ingrained in smartphones, Hong believes it will soon be seen as a standard feature.
“Smart virtual assistants, natural language search, and image creation will soon be essential features for any device hoping to remain competitive in the market,” she added.
