Many streets and houses in two suburban districts in Hanoi, including Chuong My and Quoc Oai, were submerged under up to two meters of water on Monday though there have been no heavy rains over the past two days.

The water of the Bui River spilled over a dike road in Tan Tien and Nam Phuong Tien Communes of Chuong My, leading to the serious inundation in the area, according to the observation of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters.

In Nhan Ly Hamlet, Nam Phuong Tien Commune, residents used boats to commute as some roads were submerged under up to two meters of water.

Phung Xuan Luc, head of the hamlet, reported that 300 out of 320 households in Nam Phuong Tien Commune had their homes flooded.

Meanwhile, the elderly and children in Nhan Ly Hamlet were evacuated to safer locations.

"The inundation has disrupted residents' lives and damaged their farming areas," Luc said.

The latest rain in the capital was reported on Saturday evening, with rainfall ranging from 30 mm to 150 mm, according to the Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Company.

The outlying district of Quoc Oai experienced approximately 78 mm of precipitation, while Chuong My District has recorded no rain over the past four days.

However, many parts of Chuong My District remain flooded.

The inundation was caused by water spilling from the Bui River through a dike into residents’ houses following heavy downpours on July 23 and 24.

Rains and floods have damaged 601 meters of canals, inundated over 5,500 meters of dikes in 11 communes in Chuong My District, and turned several streets and roads into rivers, according to the district's steering committee for natural disaster prevention and search and rescue.

The floods submerged approximately 1,240 houses under up to two meters of water, destroyed vast cultivation areas, and affected hundreds of thousands of farm animals.

Residents in Quoc Oai District faced similar conditions due to the heavy rains.

Pham Quang Tuan, deputy chairman of Quoc Oai District, stated that the suburban district was providing food and clean water to the flooded households.
