Images of Vietnamese flags made out of blood donation certificates have flooded social networks in Vietnam over the past few days.
The trend was initiated by Tran Van Phu, an official from the Department of Public Security in Hau Giang Province, southern Vietnam.
Phu, who first donated blood in 2008 at the age of 18, has donated 83 times to date.
He conceived the idea of arranging his blood donation certificates into the shape of the Vietnamese flag while organizing his papers.

Though the flag he created was not perfect, he decided to snap a photo and share it with a friend who later uploaded the photo to social media.
From there, it was not long until the picture went viral.
Phu’s Vietnamese flag is made up of 75 blood donation certificates, and Phu is thankful those certificates are now being used to inspire thousands of blood donors across the country.

“I am proud to see thousands of Vietnamese flags made carefully, beautifully, and creatively [from blood donation certificates]," Phu said.
"They are an expression of kindness and patriotism."
The trend has since caught on with thousands of blood donors in Vietnam, with netizens sharing that Phu has inspired them to donate blood.
