Vietnam finished the group stage of the 2024 ASEAN Championship in first place, with 10 points and 11 goals over four matches in Group B.
Coach Kim Sang Sik’s team will face Singapore in the semifinals.
So far, Vietnam have scored the second-highest number of goals in the tournament, only behind Thailand, who have netted 18 goals.
Naturalized striker Nguyen Xuan Son and his Vietnamese teammates Nguyen Quang Hai and Nguyen Tien Linh have each scored twice, while Nguyen Van Toan, Nguyen Van Vi, Nguyen Hai Long, Bui Vi Hao, and Doan Ngoc Tan have each netted once.
Notably, Vietnam boast the best defense after the group stage, having conceded just two goals.
The Philippines follow with three goals conceded, while Thailand are third with four goals.
The Vietnamese team will play the first leg of the semifinals at Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore on December 26, before hosting The Lions at Viet Tri Stadium in northern Phu Tho Province for the second leg on December 29.
The Philippines will host Thailand at Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila for their first leg on December 27, before traveling to Rajamangala National Stadium in Thailand for the return game on December 30.
The 2024 ASEAN Championship, also known as as the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup, kicked off on December 8, with the finale set for January 5, 2025.
Vietnam were placed in Group B, alongside Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Myanmar.
Group A included Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, and Timor-Leste.
During the group stage, each side played two home and two away matches to determine the top two teams advancing to the semifinals.
The semifinals and finale follow a two-legged knockout format.
