Party General Secretary of Vietnam To Lam held a phone call with Secretary-General of the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) and Prime Minister of Singapore Lawrence Wong on Friday, during which both leaders discussed efforts to deepen the Vietnam - Singapore strategic partnership and seize new cooperation opportunities in various fields.

Lam congratulated PM Wong on his election as PAP Secretary-General and praised the party’s contributions to Singapore’s development over the past six decades. 

He expressed confidence in Singapore’s continued success under Wong’s leadership and its growing global influence.

Lam highlighted the close cooperation and support from Singapore since Vietnam’s early days of reform and international integration, reaffirming Vietnam’s commitment to advancing its strategic partnership with this city-state.

He emphasized the importance of enhancing political trust through high-level exchanges and closer ties between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the PAP.

Relevant agencies of the two nations need to closely coordinate to develop strategies and plans for cooperation in areas such as digital transformation and renewable energy, aiming to meet the demands and development goals of the new era.

He also proposed intensifying defense and security cooperation, including the establishment of a national population data center and the integration of digital platforms such as SingPass and VNeID, which are actively being studied by both sides to facilitate entry and exit for citizens of the two countries.

The top Singaporean official agreed with Lam’s proposals for tightening bilateral cooperation in the years to come.

Wong said that Singaporean businesses are keen to increase investment in Vietnam in sectors like renewable energy development, carbon credit trading, development of new-generation Vietnam - Singapore industrial parks (VSIPs), semiconductors, and artificial intelligence.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the achievements in bilateral relations over the past 50 years, especially during the 10 years of their strategic partnership.

They highlighted the VSIP network of 18 industrial parks throughout Vietnam as a symbol of successful cooperation.

Vietnam and Singapore also reaffirmed their commitment to the Digital Economy - Green Economy Partnership, aiming to drive sustainable innovation and tackle challenges like climate change. 

Both countries are aligned with the shared goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

The two top officials agreed to enhance collaboration within ASEAN and other regional and international forums to build a resilient, prosperous, and sustainable ASEAN.

To further deepen ties, both sides tasked their agencies with developing plans for elevating their bilateral relations to new heights.

Wong invited Lam and his spouse to visit Singapore in 2025.

The Vietnamese Party chief accepted the invitation and, in turn, invited Wong and his spouse to visit Vietnam at a convenient time.
