Super typhoon Yagi had caused four deaths - three in Quang Ninh Province and one in Hai Duong Province - and injured 78 people as of 5:00 pm on Saturday, according to the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority.

Super typhoon Yagi, the third storm to hit Vietnam this year, has caused significant damage across northern region.

In Quang Ninh Province, 58 people were injured, while Hai Phong City reported 20 injuries.

Several boats were affected -- five cement ships and one small wooden vessel sank at anchorages, and a transport ship broke loose and drifted.

Widespread power outages were reported locally in Thai Binh Province, Hai Duong Province, Hanoi, Bac Ninh Province, and Bac Giang Province and in the entirety of Quang Ninh Province and Hai Phong City.

According to a preliminary report from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Northern Power Corporation, approximately 1.5 million customers in northern Vietnam were affected by the blackout.

The storm caused extensive damage to infrastructure, with many houses sustaining roof damage and thousands of trees falling across various localities.

As of 4:00 pm Saturday, police in Quang Ninh Province reported 13 people and one ship missing, one crane collapsed, and 14 ships sunk.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, water levels in the Red River-Thai Binh system and rivers in north-central Thanh Hoa Province remain low, below the first alarm level, out of three alarm levels.

However, due to continued rain from Super typhoon Yagi, a flood warning is in effect from Saturday evening through Tuesday for northern rivers and those in Thanh Hoa Province, with expected flood heights of two to six meters.

Flood peaks in small rivers, especially in Quang Ninh, Cao Bang, Lang Son, and Hoa Binh Provinces, are likely to reach alert levels 2 and 3.

The meteorological agency has also issued warnings for a high risk of flooding in low-lying areas along rivers, flash floods, and landslides on steep slopes in northern mountainous regions and Thanh Hoa Province.

Urban areas, cities, and provinces in the Red River Delta are at elevated risk of flooding due to heavy rain, particularly in Quang Ninh Province, Hai Phong City, Lang Son Province, Thai Nguyen Province, Cao Bang Province, Ha Giang Province, Yen Bai Province, Bac Kan Province, Nam Dinh Province, Thai Binh Province, Ha Nam Province, and Hanoi.

Due to the typhoon’s complex behavior and prolonged land presence, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has extended the temporary suspension of operations at Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh Province and Cat Bi International Airport in Hai Phong City until 8:00 pm on Saturday, and at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi until midnight on Sunday.

Tho Xuan Airport in Thanh Hoa Province will continue its suspension until 10:00 pm on Saturday.

By Sunday morning, as it advances deeper into the northwest, the storm is expected to weaken into a tropical depression, then a low-pressure area, and gradually dissipate.
