Editor's note: Typhoon Yagi, the most powerful storm to have struck the East Vietnam Sea over the past three decades, made landfall in northern Vietnam on Saturday, leaving devastation across the region. During hardships, many Vietnamese people continue to show compassion and support for their community.
On Saturday, many motorbike riders found it hard to drive through the Nhat Tan Bridge in Hanoi as they were unable to maintain balance amid the strong winds of typhoon Yagi.
One car decided to slow down to shield the motorbikes from the fierce winds and was quickly joined by more cars to create a wall shielding the motorbikes, helping them to safely drive across the bridge.
A video of the situation has gone viral on social media in Vietnam, touching the hearts of millions of people.
Residents coming together to protect and support one another during the typhoon exemplifies human kindness in times of hardship. A single car traveling slowly could not shield all the motorbikes on the bridge; however, the involvement of multiple cars highlights the strength of community and compassion.
It is not just about cars forming a barrier against the wind, but a testament to how Vietnamese citizens consistently think of others.,
Another video circulating on social media shows two cars shielding a motorbike on an overpass in Hanoi’s inner city. When it became apparent that two cars were not sufficient, more vehicles slowed down to create a larger protective shield.
Moreover, Vietnamese people shared hundreds of addresses on social media to provide shelter for typhoon-hit victims.
The owner of a hotel on Co To Island off the coast of Quang Ninh Province in northern Vietnam invited people living in makeshift houses to his hotel during the typhoon. The hotel’s employees even coordinated with local authorities to pick up elderly people who otherwise would be unable to get to the establishment.
Such touching stories have inspired others and spread love amid the devastation caused by the super typhoon. Helping others pass through bridges and sharing shelters are specific acts of kindness which are meaningful when the Vietnamese people are jointly responding to natural disasters.
Many citizens have left compliments below these videos and posts, saying they feel immense pride watching these acts of compassion.
Storms, no matter how disastrous, can be measured through indicators like speed and classification levels, while compassion are immeasurable.
