Ho Chi Minh City authorities have ordered Cu Chi District, Hoc Mon District, and District 12 to brace for the potential collapse of embankments along the Saigon River owing to heavy downpours, coupled with high tides.
The administrations of these districts were urged to mobilize forces, equipment, and vehicles in response to the embankment collapse risk.
The municipal steering committee for civil defense, natural disaster prevention and control, and search and rescue has issued an urgent directive to municipal departments, agencies, and districts, urging them to prepare for heavy rainfall and high tides.
The tidal water level at Phu An Station on the Saigon River is rising fast, according to the southern weather center.
The tide is forecast to reach its peak at 1.61 meters on Thursday, and 1.63 meters on Friday.
Ongoing heavy rains, paired with high tides, are expected to swamp riverside low-lying areas in the city.
In addition to preparing for potential embankment collapse, municipal agencies, districts, and Thu Duc City have been instructed to enhance traffic safety measures, inspect the stability of street trees, and address flooding issues effectively.
Ho Chi Minh City experienced heavy rain from Tuesday morning to noon, particularly in Hoc Mon and Cu Chi Districts, with precipitation ranging from 50 to 70 mm.
