A Korean Air flight from Da Nang City in central Vietnam to Seoul, South Korea was canceled after the plane was found with a dented nose and suspected bird strike markings.
The flight was scheduled to depart Da Nang at 10:50 pm on Sunday and arrive in Seoul the following morning.
Ground staff discovered the damage to the plane's nose, over 0.5 meters in diameter, with red marks believed to be from a bird strike.
The staff suspected the damage was sustained after the plane touched down in Da Nang the night before.
According to the Central Vietnam Airport Authority, the aircraft remained at Da Nang International Airport on Monday morning for further inspection and repairs, with an official report pending.
Officials noted that mid-air bird collisions are more common during the migration season, while hail storms also pose unavoidable risks to aviation.
Despite the installation of bird-scaring devices at airports, such incidents often occur outside airport boundaries during take-off or landing.
In a similar case on May 20, a flight from Hanoi to Can Tho City in southern Vietnam had to return to Noi Bai International Airport after sustaining nose damage and a cracked cockpit window.
The Airbus A321 came back to Noi Bai 20 minutes after departure when the flight crew noticed a crack in the cockpit glass in front of the co-pilot's seat.
Ground crew later found a dent on the plane’s nose. The cause remained unclear, however.
On May 19, another Vietnam Airlines flight from Vinh City in north-central Vietnam to Ho Chi Minh City landed with a cracked cockpit window and traces of blood suspected to be from a bird strike.
