Dr. Nguyen Thuy Ba Linh, a university lecturer in the UK, has become the first Vietnamese scientist to be honored at the prestigious TechWomen100 Awards 2024 for her outstanding contributions to research, development and application of biotechnologies.
Among more than 1,150 nominations, Dr. Linh, from the University College London, was recently selected as the sole Vietnamese representative to be included in the list of 100 winners at the TechWomen100 Awards this year, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.
The award ceremony took place at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Center in London on November 21 (local time).
Dr. Linh, 44, shared that she is always proud to be Vietnamese and believes that the efforts of Vietnamese people can make a difference anywhere.
She hoped that the award will serve as a source of inspiration for Vietnamese female scientists at home and abroad, especially young people, to overcome barriers and pursue their passion for science.
In an interview with VNA in the UK, Dr. Vanessa Vallely, founder and CEO of WeAreTechWomen - head of the organizing committee of the TechWomen100 2024 - said that the awards aim to find special talents in the technology field and create an ecosystem for women working in technology to connect and support each other.
She highly appreciated Dr. Linh's achievements and expressed her wish to see more Vietnamese female scientists take part in the awards, contributing to expanding the global nominations of TechWomen100.

Dr. Linh graduated with a major in chemistry from the University of Natural Sciences, Ho Chi Minh City in 2003.
After receiving a PhD in regenerative medicine from Soonchunhyang University, South Korea, she joined the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, University of Oxford as a postdoctoral researcher, focusing on biomedical engineering and tissue regeneration.
Since 2019, Dr. Linh has been a lecturer in biomaterials at the Eastman Dental Institute at the University College London.
Her research focuses on biomaterials for tissue regeneration, drug delivery systems, and thermoresponsive polymers for stem cell expansion and harvesting.
Dr. Linh has conducted many important projects on bone and skin regeneration material technology.
The researcher has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles, two book chapters, and two patents.
She was also an editor and reviewer for many prestigious journals such as the Journal of Biomaterials Applications, and gave courses on nanomedicine, biomedical engineering applications, and clinical sciences.
Launched in 2017, the annual TechWomen100 honors 100 exceptional women leaders working in technology across the UK each year.
