Frost covers Vietnam’s highest peak for nearly a week

Thick layers of frost have covered everything on the summit of Fansipan, Vietnam’s highest peak, in northern Sa Pa Town over the past six days due to chilling weather in the ongoing winter.
According to Sun World Fansipan Legend in Sa Pa, the temperature at Fansipan Peak dropped to zero degrees Celsius at around 5:30 am on Sunday.
Thick layers of frost covered trees, wooden floors, sightseeing paths, and other surfaces around the mountain peak.
This frost is reported to be the thickest since the start of the 2024 winter and has persisted for six consecutive days on Fansipan.
By 8:30 am, even with the sun up, the temperature at Fansipan Peak remained near zero degrees Celsius, and icicles on tree branches continued to grow.
Sa Pa is renowned as a popular winter destination in northern Vietnam, particularly for travelers eager to experience ‘cloud and snow hunting’ on the peak.
Beyond these unique experiences, visitors to Sa Pa can also marvel at the delicate pink hues of cherry blossom gardens nestled among verdant oolong tea fields on the rolling hills of O Quy Ho Ward.
The frost on Fansipan Peak will likely prolong in coming days as low temperatures have been forecast to continue in Sa Pa.
Tour operators have advised visitors heading to Fansipan Peak this winter to dress warmly with thermal shirts, jackets, hats, and scarves.
They also recommend that women opt for sneakers instead of high heels to avoid slipping on icy paths.
Standing at 3,143 meters, Fansipan is the centerpiece of the 280km Hoang Lien Son mountain range in Lao Cai Province, northern Vietnam.
Known as the ‘Roof of Indochina,’ Fansipan is the highest mountain on the Indochina Peninsula, which encompasses Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
