An 89-year-old woman died while two others sustained injuries in a suspected rabid dog attack in Tay Ninh Province, southern Vietnam.
Local authorities were working to determine the cause of the fatal attack and provide initial support to the victims’ families, a representative of the Tay Ninh administration confirmed to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Wednesday.
At around 4:00 pm on Tuesday, N.T.H., 60, a resident of Ninh Son Ward, Tay Ninh City discovered his neighbor, N.T.D., 89, residing in Linh Son Ward, lying inside her house with severe injuries.
Shocked by the gruesome scene, H. immediately alerted D.’s son, 52-year-old N.T.S., who live nearby.
Upon arriving at the house, S. found his mother critically injured with her face disfigured, and in a life-threatening condition.
While S. was assessing his mother's injuries, a yellow dog whose mouth was covered in blood suddenly lunged at him, attacking him.
The dog also bit another neighbor before running off.
Recognizing the dog’s aggressive behavior and suspected rabies symptoms, neighbors chased after it and killed it to prevent further attacks.
Approximately 20 minutes after the attack was discovered, D. succumbed to her injuries.
According to local inhabitants, a six-year-old grandchild usually stayed with D., but the child was visiting a neighbor at the time of the attack, avoiding potential harm.
