The administration of Dong Nai Province in southern Vietnam on Monday approved a plan to build a nuclear science and technology research center with the goal of enhancing the country’s research and application of nuclear technology.
Spanning 96.67 hectares in the provincial city of Long Khanh, the center will feature a 10MWt research reactor, laboratories, and supporting infrastructure.
The center development will enable the province to foster a skilled workforce capable of mastering advanced nuclear technologies while expanding the peaceful use of nuclear energy in agriculture, healthcare, industry, and environmental management.
The project will also include auxiliary facilities to support the reactor’s operation and maximize its research potential.
Expected to employ 800-1,000 experts and specialists, the facility will adhere to low-density construction, with buildings no taller than five stories and an overall construction density capped at 30 percent.
The Ministry of Science and Technology will serve as the project’s developer.
Long Khanh is renowned for its mild climate, peaceful atmosphere, and picturesque surroundings, often compared to Da Lat, a tourist attraction in Vietnam’s Central Highlands.
Visitors are drawn to its cool mornings and evenings, vast fruit orchards, rubber plantations, and pristine natural landscapes.
The city is also home to many cultural and historical landmarks, including the Hang Gon Megalithic Tomb, Xuan Loc Temple, and Xuan Hoa Pagoda.
