Binh Dan Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City has completed 3,500 robotic surgeries since adopting the technique nine years ago, marking a significant milestone for Vietnam in high-tech surgical practices.
The figures were revealed at the hospital’s 21st scientific congress, themed ‘Connecting International Surgical Experts,' held from Thursday to Friday in the city.
The event gathered 1,500 participants, including 32 international surgeons and professors from top medical institutions in the U.S., France, Belgium, Australia, Japan, and South Korea, along with over 200 Vietnamese presenters.
Assoc. Prof. Tran Vinh Hung, the hospital’s director, said that Binh Dan first explored robotic surgery in Germany in 2014 and became the first Vietnamese hospital to perform robotic surgery on adults in late 2016.
Robotic techniques have since been applied to treating over 15 types of complex conditions, especially cancers.
In 2024 alone, the hospital performed nearly 700 robotic procedures.
By 2022, Vietnam had officially appeared on the global map of robotic surgery.
