The contract of Chinese coach Chen Yun Fat with the Vietnamese national women’s football team will be extended by one year, the Vietnam Football Federation said Friday. The male coach has been assigned the task of leading the women’s squad to win the gold medal at the SEA Games 27 in Myanmar next year. His two-year contract with the team has expired after they clinched the 2012 Southeast Asian Women Football Championship by defeating Myanmar 4 – 3 in the penalty shootouts following a goalless draw on September 22. The new salary for the coach has yet to be revealed, but sources said it will be increased from the current US$3,000 a month. The wage is only one eighth of the sum other foreign coaches of the men’s team received. After the SEA Games, the women’s team will begin another tough journey to achieve a higher target: securing a ticket at the 2015 Women’s World Cup. Vietnam has a golden chance to strike for the World Cup dream as FIFA has recently announced that Asia will be given five slots at the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada, instead of three tickets as usual. Meanwhile, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), the second runner-up of the 2011 edition in Germany, will be banned from participation following a doping scandal at the event. “It’s a tough target, but it is unnecessary to turn to a different high-level coach,” VFF chairman Nguyen Trong Hy said in a statement. “We still trust coach Fat as he has been working well with the team,” he said.
