Multiple legendary golfers traveled to Nha Trang, a popular beach city in south-central Khanh Hoa Province, to participate in the ongoing Vinpearl DIC Legends Vietnam 2023 golf tournament, which kicked off on Monday.
The first international professional golf tour in Vietnam was set to wrap up on Saturday.
Among participating world-renowned golfers are Michael Campbell, Euan McIntosh, James Kingston, and Emanuele Canonica.
Michael Campbell, the winner of the U.S. Open, an annual open national championship of golf in the U.S., in 2005 and the eight-time winner of the European Tour, which is considered the second-most important tour in men's golf, acts as an ambassador for the golf tourney in the south-central coastal city.
“Golf courses in Nha Trang City are well prepared for the golf tournament,” Campbell said.
“I am extremely impressed to play golf on an island."
Nguyen Ngoc Chu, former vice-chairman and general secretary of the Vietnam Golf Tourism, said that Vinpearl DIC Legends Vietnam 2023, as part of the Legends Tour, the world’s leading golf tournament, was hosted in Southeast Asia for the first time.
This means that Vietnam is the first country in the region to organize the tournament, opening a wider door for the host to boost golf tourism and attract international visitors, mainly golf players.
“We have bagged several medals in golf at the Southeast Asian [SEA] Games, while more and more women and young people are playing golf," Chu said.
“Organizing such a world-class golf tourney will contribute to making golf professional in Vietnam.”
The tournament will help connect amateur and professional golfers, contributing to promoting tourism in Vietnam.
The golf tourney was scheduled to feature two pro-am golf tournaments, and many alliance golf tournaments.
