Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC will welcome American forward Sabrina Marie Cabrera as they prepare for the quarterfinals of the AFC Women’s Club Champions League 2024-25 on home soil later this month.
The club confirmed Cabrera’s arrival on Wednesday, noting that she will join the team once her visa and international transfer paperwork are finalized.
Born in 2001, the 1.77m-tall center forward brings a strong physique and technical ability, fitting the profile that coach Doan Thi Kim Chi has been looking for to enhance the squad’s attacking options.
Her physicality and strength inside the penalty area address a key weakness in the team’s previous lineup.
Cabrera is expected to form a formidable attacking partnership with Vietnamese star striker Huynh Nhu, whose agility could complement Cabrera’s power and presence in the box.
She becomes the second foreign player to join Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC this season, following center-back Aubrey Rae Goodwill, who was unveiled last week.
The club still has one more foreign player slot available under league regulations.
Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC will take on Abu Dhabi Country Club from the UAE in the quarterfinals at Thong Nhat Stadium on March 22.
Earlier that day, Group A winners Hyundai Steel Red Angels Women’s FC of South Korea will face Iran’s Bam Khatoon FC.
The following day, defending champions Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies of Japan will play Wuhan Jiangda Women’s FC of China, while Australia’s Melbourne City FC, who topped Group B with a perfect record, will take on Taiwan’s Taichung Blue Whale Women’s FC.
The semifinals and final, which will be single-leg matches at a centralized venue, are scheduled for May 21-24.
