The Phu My Hung Spring Flower Festival 2021 still opened on Thursday in the Phu My Hung New Urban Area, one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Ho Chi Minh City, but on a smaller scale than previous years after it had been planned for cancelation over COVID-19 concerns.

The festival, which has been organized annually for the Lunar New Year celebrations since 2012, is finally able to welcome visitors thanks to the last-minute change in organizers’ plan.

It is themed ‘Sac Xuan Hoi Ngo’ (Spring Colors’ Reunion) this year, showcasing the settings of Vietnamese and different Asian cultures.

Its concept is divided into two sections of a spring road and a spring market, instead of four parts like previous years.

The Vietnamese settings include such landmarks of the country’s northern, central, and southern regions as three-compartment houses, Hoi An Ancient Town in Quang Nam Province, and Ben Thanh Market in Ho Chi Minh City.

The spring road also has space for the typical cultural features of South Korea, Japan, and China to give local visitors new experiences and expats, who live in the area, a little sense of their homeland as they cannot return to their countries for the traditional holiday this year due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

The festival will last until February 16.

The 2021 Lunar New Year will fall on February 12. Unlike previous years, Vietnamese people have been more cautious about enjoying the traditional holiday as a new COVID-19 wave has hit the country since January 28.

The organizers of the Phu My Hung Spring Flower Festival 2021 thus decided to apply multiple safety measures so this year’s event could take place.

Phu My Hung, around eight kilometers from the city center, houses a large expat community in Ho Chi Minh City thanks to its diverse amenities and fresh air.
