The Fair and Exhibition of Seeds and Hi-Tech Agriculture 2023 kicked off at the Binh Phu Park in District 6, Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday, showcasing dozens of strange, unique plants and animals.

The five-day fair features several new breeds of turtles and frogs; as well as many species of bonsai.

The Binh Phu Park was packed on Wednesday morning when visitors enjoyed the opening ceremony and had the opportunity to hunt for unique seedlings.

Ngo Dang Thu, 66, visited the fair where he bought two heavy bags filled with calamansi seedlings and several types of young bonsai.

He was also hoping to find variegated pink lemon seedlings at the fair.

“I bought new seedlings that are hard to find at bonsai stores in Ho Chi Minh City. [The ones I bought] were grown in An Giang Province [in the Mekong Delta region],” Thu said.

P.K.L., a resident of Go Vap District, also visited the fair to search for calamansi seedlings.

“I used my lunch break to join this fair to find unique seedlings,” she said.

Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, a 54-year-old resident of Hoc Mon District, visited the fair with three of her friends at the park at 8:30 am on Wednesday.

She wound up buying Tay Ninh banana seeds, brown rice, and shiitake mushrooms.

Over 204 exhibitors took more than 302 booths at the fair to showcase agricultural products, high quality seedlings and seeds, and ‘One Commune One Product’ (OCOP) products originating from Ho Chi Minh City and localities across Vietnam.

The fair features an ornamental fish contest, promotional programs, and art performances.
