Ha Long International Cruise Port in Quang Ninh Province, northern Vietnam on Monday welcomed Italian cruise ship Costa Serena with nearly 3,000 passengers and more than 1,000 sailors on board.
The Costa Serena has docked at ports in Vietnam several times, but this is its first time in Ha Long City, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
This is one of the largest international cruise liners to dock in Ha Long this year.
These international tourists were set to tour Ha Long Bay, named by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site twice in 1994 and 2000, as well as other tourist attractions in the province.
The ship will leave the port at 6:00 pm the same day.
The Costa Serena is scheduled to bring international tourists to the city on October 14 and 18, and November 4 and 8.
Ha Long City is expected to receive some 60-70 cruise ships with a total of some 70,000 passengers on board this year, according to the provincial Department of Tourism.
Ha Long Bay is bustling with international tourists, especially cruise visitors, as the year draws to a close.
Cruise tourism in Ha Long typically peaks between November and April.
The 2024 cruise tourism season started with positive signs in the province, with the return of a series of luxury cruise ships owned by big cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and Azamara, and liner Mein Schiff 5.
These cruise ships brought international tourists from the U.S., Canada, England, and Australia to Ha Long from January to April.
Notably, U.S.-flagged cruise liner The World transported over 170 tourists who are billionaires and millionaires from the U.S. and Europe to Ha Long in mid-June for a four-day stay.
