Typhoon Nock-ten which formed east of the Philippines has been anticipated to weaken and dissipate shortly after entering the East Vietnam Sea.
The tropical storm was located in the central part of the Philippines islands at 7:00 pm on Sunday, packing winds of 165 to 200km per hour and squalls of about 220km an hour, according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
It was traveling westward at an average velocity of 15 to 20km per hour and will enter the eastern region of the East Vietnam Sea at around 7:00 pm on Monday, causing rough seas accompanied by winds flowing from 120 to 150km per hour.
The tempest was forecast to continue its journey west, the center said, adding that its wind speed would be hampered by the effect of a strong cold front from the north.
By Tuesday, the storm will have continued to be impacted by the cold spell as it will travel southwestward, before weakening into a tropical depression and potentially dissipating at sea.
Under the combined influence of the storm circulation and cold front, torrential rain is expected to cover a large area in central Vietnam from December 28 to January 2, 2017.
Northern Vietnamese provinces will also be affected by a cold spell on Tuesday morning with average temperatures around 11 to 13 degrees Celsius in the mainland, including Hanoi, and between six and eight degrees Celsius in mountainous areas.
