South Korean maritime police ship JuJakHam landed in southern Vung Tau city on Monday for a five-day working visit to Vietnam. The shipped landed in a port of PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation in the city’s Ward 9 at 4 pm yesterday. The ship has a crew of 68 members headed by Ko Myung Suk, head of the Department for Technology and Equipment of the South Korean High Command of Maritime Police. The ship’s crewmembers are scheduled to take part in a joint practicing on fire and explosion prevention and control and search and rescue at sea with a Vietnamese maritime police unit this morning. The ship will later leave Vung Tau for Ho Chi Minh City to continue its journey in Vietnam. The ship was launched in 2009 and is valued at US$5.6 million. It is 112.8 meters in length and 14.2 meters in width, has a displacement of 3,000 tons and a heliport on its deck. The Vietnam Maritime Police and the South Korean maritime Police signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral cooperation in June 2007. The two maritime police forces have since implemented the contents of the MoU, including the sharing of information necessary for rescuing ships and fishermen in the sea areas of each country. Also under the MoU, the two sides will boost exchanges delegations, and under their framework of international cooperation, South Korean Police will help train maritime police officers for Vietnam.
