A video has gone viral since early Sunday showing the driver, believed to be drunk, of a car owned by a central agency being pursued and caught up by many on motorbikes, following a hit-and-run in Hanoi.

Eyewitnesses said that the driver crashed his car into a motorbike at 9:00 pm on Saturday near Nguyen Trai Street, Thanh Xuan District, and sped away amid dense traffic.

Angered by the hit-and-run, many rode their motorbikes to chase the car, bearing plate number 80B-3589.  

Some filmed the chase and posted it on Facebook. The video enraged many viewers as the driver traveled at high speed on crowded streets.

The car then hit another motorbike ridden by a man, according to the footage.

Its driver seemed to lose his self-control and accelerated despite the pursuers and red lights at several crossroads.

But those chasing the car finally managed to stop it and drag the driver out for a beating before handing him over to police.

Many angry men said in the video when pulling the driver out of the car that he was drunk.

Hanoi police told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Sunday that the car is owned by the Central Economic Commission, tasked with advising the Party on economic matters.

The driver has been identified as Dinh Van Hung.

Police officers said only one person has showed up and complained about being hit by the car.

That person sustained minor injuries and agreed to receive damages from the driver.

Officers are carrying out a further investigation.
