Vietnamese automaker VinFast has unveiled its most powerful car yet with the introduction of the Lux V8, which packs a V8 engine capable of reaching a top speed of over 300 kilometers per hour, at the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) that kicked off on Monday.
The Lux V8 is the special edition of VinFast’s SUV Lux line and the second car model from Vietnam to make an appearance at a prestigious international motor show, following the SUV Lux SA2.0, which was showcased at the Paris Motor Show in October 2018. The VinFast Lux V8, with a 6.2L V8 engine, has improved on the SUV Lux SA2.0 and is expected to be produced in limited numbers and become available on the market in 2020.
A V8 engine is an eight-cylinder V configuration engine found in many racecars because it allows acceleration and more efficient exhaust system designs.
The new SUV model boasts a maximum capacity of 455 horsepower and maximum torque of 624 Newton meters, capable of reaching a top speed of over 300 kilometers per hour.
Its interior is designed with handmade Ultrasede leather and carbon fibers.
VinFast’s lead designer David Lyon says the Lux V8 combines the performance of a racecar and the extravagance of a luxury car.
Nguyen Minh Dong, an ex-designer for German automaker Volkswagen, asserts that VinFast is taking a similar step to famous auto brands by launching a limited-edition powerful car model that will improve its status on the market.
VinFast Manufacturing and Trading Co. Ltd. is a subsidiary of the Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup, which has investments in multiple sectors including real estate, education, consumer retail, and smartphone production.
Its first three car models, the LUX A2.0 sedan, the LUX SA2.0 SUV, and the Fadil city car, were introduced in November 2018 and are available for pre-orders at prices of VND1.818 billion ($78,174), VND1.366 billion ($58,738), and VND423 million ($18,189), respectively.
First held in 1950, the GISM is an annual auto show held around March in the Swiss city of Geneva. This year’s edition will run until March 17.
