Hanoi authorities allowed motorbike ride-hailing service to resume operations on Tuesday after more than six months of suspension for COVID-19 prevention.
The Hanoi Department of Transport said in its approval document that the service resumption is meant to better meet the needs of local people as the capital city is currently at medium risk of COVID-19 transmission.
Two-wheel ride-hailing partners are required to be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus and strictly follow the health ministry’s recommendations for COVID-19 prevention and control.
The municipal transport department decided to suspend the operation of tech-based goods logistics and ride-hailing services using motorbikes and cars on July 24, 2021 to facilitate the fight against COVID-19.
While the municipal administration let public buses, taxis, and ride-hailing cars with fewer than nine seats get back to business on October 14, 2021, the suspension order remained for both traditional and tech-based ride-hailing motorbikes because it was considered harder to track motorbike passengers in case of infections.
Receiving the green light from the municipal government, Internet-based ride-hailing companies such as Grab and Be listed the motorbike service on their apps on Tuesday.
