The Drug Administration of Vietnam (DAV) under the Ministry of Health issued a nationwide recall of two hand sanitizer products, Aerius-19 and Happicare+, on Monday for failure to meet methanol limit requirements.

Suspension of their circulation accompanied the recall.

The Aerius-19 hand sanitizer products subject to the recall were manufactured on February 10, 2022, with an expiry date of February 10, 2025, and labeled 'SCB: 000175/16-CBMP-HCM' by HMP Tien Thinh Phat Co. Ltd., which is located at 182/46 Huynh Tan Phat Street in Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City.

The Happicare+ product batch to be pulled off shelves was numbered H5-01.1511, produced on November 15, 2021, with an expiry date of November 15, 2024, and labeled 'SCB: 001722/20/CBMP-HCM.'

It was marketed by Happicare Medical Equipment Manufacturing and Trading Co. Ltd., which is situated at 36/30/4 Bui Tu Toan Street in Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City.

The DAV decided to suspend circulation and recall these products nationwide after their test samples did not meet requirements on methanol limits in cosmetic products in accordance with the provisions of the ASEAN Cosmetic Association and a circular dated January 25, 2011 of the Ministry of Health.

The agency required the health departments of centrally-run provinces and cities to ask business establishments trading the said products to immediately stop their circulation and conduct a recall to return them to the suppliers.

It also requested the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health to inspect HMP Tien Thinh Phat Co. Ltd. and Happicare Medical Equipment Manufacturing and Trading Co. Ltd. for their observance of the law on cosmetics production and business.

The municipal health department was also charged with monitoring the recall, handling any violations in accordance with current regulations, and submitting a report to the DAV before July 15.
