South Korea-based Samsung Group expressed its ambition to turn its research and development (R&D) center in Hanoi into the largest in Southeast Asia and the world as a whole.
At a conference on the implementation of an action program to realize the Politburo’s Resolution 30 on socio-economic development, national defense and security assurance, and investment promotion in the Red River Delta held in northern Quang Ninh Province on Sunday, Samsung Vietnam Complex general director Choi Joo Ho said Samsung established its R&D team in Vietnam in 2012 and they are working at its factories in Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen Provinces as well as Hanoi.
On December 23 last year, the conglomerate inaugurated an R&D center in the Tay Ho Tay Urban Area in Hanoi. The center is in charge of expanding research fields and improving the professional knowledge of local staff.
The center also contributes to the foundation for the development of Vietnamese tech talents and the country’s industries.

According to Choi, Samsung plans to boost the training of technological talents in Vietnam through scholarships for promising tech students and cooperation with universities.
Since 2015, Samsung’s experts from South Korea have worked with some 400 companies in Vietnam to improve its competitiveness and the quality of its products.
As a result, its productivity has surged 40 percent, while faulty products have halved after three months.
Thanks to this program and other support activities, the number of first- and second-tier suppliers in Vietnam involved in Samsung’s global supply chains rocketed ten-fold, from 25 in 2014 to 257 last year.
