Vietnam’s air carriers Vietjet and Vietravel Airlines are rushing to increase the number of aircraft this month to meet high travel demand during the 2023 summer season.
Vu Duc Bien, general director of Vietravel Airlines, said that the carrier had cut a deal to charter planes from Cambodia Airways.
The airline will take the delivery of an Airbus A319 aircraft on May 20 to raise its fleet to four.
Vietravel Airlines, which started commercial operation in January 2021, will receive an additional two planes in July.
Vietjet Air received two Airbus A321 aircraft from Germany in early May, taking its fleet to 77 airliners.
Vietjet CEO Dinh Viet Phuong said at its recent general shareholders meeting that the airline would increase its fleet of aircraft to 87 by the end of 2023, reported Planespotters.
Another local air carrier, Bamboo Airways, is set to add six to eight planes by the end of this year.
The airline wants to raise its fleet by 10 airliners in the 2024-25 period.
In addition, Bamboo Airways will join hands with BBA Training Vietnam to offer pilot training courses.
Following the increase in the number of aircraft, the local airlines are planning to recruit flight attendants to prepare for the summer travel season.
Lam Quang Tien from Vietravel Airlines said that the carrier needed an additional 50 flight attendants in May.
After two or three months of training, these flight attendants will start their work in July.
Similarly, Vietjet has announced its recruitment of flight attendants in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang City.
