Over one ton of high-quality seedless lychees grown in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam have been exported to the British and Japanese markets, marking the first shipments of the fruit to enter the two selective nations.

Some 600 kilograms of seedless lychees were shipped to Japan, while 500 kilograms of the fruit was transported to the United Kingdom by air, said Nguyen Van Hue, director of Ho Guom – Song Am High Tech Agriculture Company, which grew the seedless lychee plants.

The firm has grown such seedless lychees in line with VietGAP (Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices) and GlobalGAP (Global Good Agricultural Practices) standards to meet all export requirements.

Ripe seedless lychee is juicy, sweet and crispy.

All steps for lychee export from preparation, processing, classification, and disinfection to packaging, and storage have met stringent domestic and international food safety standards.

The firm joined hands with the Agricultural Genetics Institute to select high-quality imported seedlings to grow them on an area of 30 hectares of land in Nguyet An Commune under Ngoc Lac District on a trial basis.

2023 is the first year the company has harvested these seedless lychees. The output totaled an estimated 20 tons.

Each kilogram of seedless lychees sold at the farm is priced at VND250,000 (US$10.7) or higher.

Seedless lychees grown by the firm are available in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The first shipments of seedless lychees to Japan and the United Kingdom by Ho Guom – Song Am High Tech Agriculture Company marked a key milestone for the agriculture industry in Thanh Hoa Province, said Cao Van Cuong, director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Despite the modest volume of the lychee shipments, the export acted as a motivator for the province’s outbound sale of farm produce, helping create jobs for workers and increase farmers’ income.

Also, Bac Giang Province in northern Vietnam started to grow seedless lychees in Tan Son Commune under Luc Ngan District in 2019, reported the local media.
