The first batch of braised scad fish will be shipped to the United States from Quang Nam Province in central Vietnam on July 20 after Ba Ba Hoi food processing cooperative in Tam Ky City, the capital of the central province, inked a deal with LNS International Corporation to export the product to the American market on Saturday.
The first shipment via official channels will weigh an estimated 10 metric tons of braised scad fish.
In addition braised scad fish, other products and food made by the cooperative will be exported to the United States.
In the hope of introducing Quang Nam Province’s specialties and high-quality food to foreign consumers and satisfying them, the cooperative has studied and applied modern technology to its food production and processing operations.
Among its popular products are braised scad fish, braised goby, caramelized dried squid, cha ca (fish nuggets), and banh chung xanh (green square glutinous rice cakes).
Ca nuc rim, or braised scad fish in English, is a tasty and familiar dish in which scad fish is cooked with sugar, chili, garlic and fish sauce, said a representative from the Quang Nam-based cooperative.
The fresh fish is sourced from the fishing grounds off Quang Nam Province.
The scad fish is processed at a factory run by the cooperative in the coastal commune of Tam Quang in Nui Thanh District before being transported to its headquarters in Tam Ky City for braising, and packaging.
These steps meet all stringent food safety requirements set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Braised scad fish and various products produced by the cooperative are available in the Vietnamese market.
