Vietnamese carrier Vietravel Airlines on Monday announced that Vietnamese-born Philipp Rösler, former vice-chancellor of Germany, is now its advisor and an independent member of its director board until 2027.
He will support the airline in expanding international cooperation, especially with investors and partners in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
Born in 1973 in Soc Trang Province in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam, he was adopted when he was nine months old and grew up in Germany.
In 2009, he became German Minister of Health, and two years later, he was elected as German Minister of Economics and Technology, and then vice-chancellor.
Rösler has more than 30 years of experience in economics, and held several key posts at some major companies such as Siemens, Deutsche Bahn, and Lufthansa.
Doan Hai Dang, general director at World Trans, was selected as another member of the airline’s board.
Vietravel Airlines also announced that Vu Duc Bien, a member of its director board and its CEO, stepped down, starting from Monday, while naming Nguyen Minh Hai, with over 25 years of experience in aviation, the new CEO, starting from Tuesday, reported Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper.
Hai has held many senior positions such as deputy general director at Vietnam Airlines, CEO at Cambodia Angkor Air, and CEO at Bamboo Airways.
Its shareholders passed a plan at a recent shareholder meeting to issue shares via private placement to raise its charter capital, which is currently VND1.3 trillion (US$52.8 million).
The proceeds will be used to expand the air carrier’s business activities.
Three years after its launch in 2020, the airline is operating three aircraft on various air routes, including international links to Macau and Sanya in China as well as Daegu and Muan in South Korea.
