The number of international tourist arrivals in Vietnam surpassed 1.4 million last month, raising the total count from January to October to over 14 million, marking a 41-percent year-on-year increase, according to a Vietnam National Authority of Tourism report released on Wednesday.
This upward trajectory indicates that the country is approaching the goal of attracting around 17-18 million international tourist arrivals by the end of the year.
During the 10-month period, South Korea remained Vietnam’s largest source of international tourists, with more than 3.7 million arrivals, followed by China, Taiwan, the U.S., Japan, India, and Australia.
A considerable rise was logged in October versus September in the number of European visitors, with arrivals from Switzerland, Sweden, and France contributing over 64 percent each.
Meanwhile, foreign visitor numbers from several Asian markets like Japan, Malaysia, Laos, and Singapore experienced a slight dip.
According to travel agencies, October through March is the peak season for international visitors, especially from Europe, due to the favorable weather.
Regarding domestic tourism, Vietnam welcomed an estimated five million local tourists in October, with about 3.3 million staying overnight, bringing the total number of domestic visitors in the first 10 months to approximately 100.5 million.
The report also indicated that Vietnam generated an estimated VND690 trillion (US$27 billion) in tourism revenue from January to October.
