Charter flights connecting 11 Russian cities with Nha Trang, a beach destination in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam will resume on March 16 after nearly three years of suspension.

The flights will operate between Nha Trang and Moscow, Barnaul, Tomsk, Yekaterinburg, Krasnoyarsk, Novokuznetsk, Khabarovsk, Novosibirsk, Blagoveshchensk, Vladivostok, and Irkutsk.

Nguyen Duc Tan, general director of Anex Vietnam, said the company had partnered with Russian airline Azur Air to operate the flights, using a fleet that includes Boeing 757, Boeing 766, and Boeing 777 aircraft.

Depending on the aircraft, each flight will carry between 238 and 531 passengers.

In March, a total of 12 charter flights are scheduled. From April to June, the frequency is expected to increase to 50-55 flights per month, before rising to 90-100 flights per month from July onward.

The first flight will depart from Irkutsk and land at Cam Ranh International Airport on March 17, carrying 238 Russian tourists.

The visitors will stay for five days or longer at three- to five-star hotels.

Tan emphasized that the return of Russian charter flights was part of an effort to restore and expand Vietnam’s international tourism market, particularly targeting Russia, which was previously one of Khanh Hoa’s most important tourist source markets.

In 2019, Khanh Hoa welcomed more than 463,000 Russian visitors, accounting for over 71 percent of all Russian arrivals in Vietnam.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict led to the suspension of direct flights in early 2022, forcing Russian travelers to transit through Kazakhstan or China before arriving in Vietnam.

In 2024, Khanh Hoa recorded over 105,000 Russian tourists, reaching nearly 23 percent of the 2019 figure.

The resumption of charter flights is expected to provide a major boost to the province’s tourism recovery in the coming months.
