Ho Chi Minh City suspends international school for one year
The American International School Vietnam (AISVN) is headquartered in Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City. The school has been suspended for 12 months, starting from July 1, 2024.

The American International School Vietnam (AISVN), headquartered in Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City, has been suspended for 12 months, starting from July 1, as the school failed to prove that it could maintain its educational operation in accordance with prevailing regulations.

The municipal Department of Education and Training said on Tuesday that it, along with other relevant units, worked with the investor and the management board of AISVN on May 28, requiring a comprehensive report on the school’s current situation and financial health to be submitted to the department by June 15.

Specifically, the report would have to include evidence for its ability to maintain educational operations and documents on tax, insurance, and salary payments.

However, after June 15, the department did not receive the required report from the school.

The school was deemed incapable of continuing its operations due to financial weaknesses and a diminished workforce.

Therefore, the municipal department decided to suspend the school’s educational operations for 12 months, beginning on Monday.

The department also instructed AIS American International Education JSC, the owner of AISVN, and the school itself to implement appropriate measures to safeguard the interests and benefits of students, ensuring that their studies are not disrupted.

The school was also required to offer sufficient social welfare to its teachers, workers, and executives.

Since April, as many as 134 parents have transferred their children from AISVN to other schools, the department said, citing reports from educational facilities.

In Ho Chi Minh City, schools which are providing an International Baccalaureate program can admit over 1,250 students in the 2024-25 academic year, well above the number of students at AISVN.

Parents of students at the suspended school can visit the website https://chuyentruong.hcm.edu.vn to conduct school changing procedures.

Students can register to study at public, non-public, and international schools in the city.

On March 18, AISVN halted classes for all students as most teachers did not show up out of unpaid salaries.
