As the ongoing Vietnamese version of the American reality dancing show “So You Think You Can Dance” began its final round on September 21, talented young dancers are ready to bring out their best and shine.
The final round, with 19 live shows taking place at Maximark Cong Hoa at 9pm and broadcast live every Saturday on HTV7, HN1, DRT and Giai tri TV, will see fierce competition from 20 dancers picked from the 116 contestants in the semi-final.
According to the judges, this season’s final promises to be more mesmerizing and electric than the first one, as most of the finalists are professional, gifted dancers.
From the auditions, Hoang My An, 17, a dance sport master for several years who was champion of a Southeast Asian dance competition in 2008 and pocketed a bronze at an Asian dance competition the same year, has bewitched audiences with her outstanding skills, youthful style and attractive looks.
However, she couldn’t help crying when she learned that she was among the Top 20.
Another young dance sport master, Minh Truong, has competed alongside seasoned dancer Khanh Thi, who was on the jury of several dance competitions. Despite his rich experience, Truong wasn’t sure if he would make it to the final, until he heard the announcement.
“The show requires that the contestants perform well in many different genres and styles, be physically fit and resilient and have a unique personality to attract viewers,” Truong shared.
Some finalists made it to the second season’s final round after quitting halfway into the first one due to injuries.
Several finalists are known professional gymnasts, aerobic athletes and art students.
Dong Tay Co., the show producer, invited two of America’s most loved dancers, Joshua Allen and Chehon Wespi-Tschopp, winners of seasons four and nine, respectively, of the American version of the show, to provide guidance and tips for the finalists on how to draw attention from the audience with their performances.
Apart from the ongoing “So You Think You Can Dance”, there are several other national dance competitions, including the Vietnamese version of “Got To Dance”, which is aired on VTV3 at 9:20pm every Saturday. A dance competition called “Beyonce Now”, in which contenders dance to celebrated singer Beyonce Knowles’ style, is also being held. The two winners will join Beyonce’s world tour in Australia later this year. Dance competitions held by television channels like YanTV and Yeah1 also attract a large number of local youths. |
