A Vietnamese beauty queen has won a prize at this year’s edition of the world’s most prestigious pageant.

Tran Ngoc Lan Khue, 23, nabbed the World Designer Award during the Saturday finale of Miss World 2015, held in Sanya, a coastal resort city in southern China's Hainan Province.

She claimed the award for her stunning evening gown shaped as a glowing flame.

Ly Qui Khanh, an emerging Vietnamese fashion designer, burst into tears upon learning that his design had been honored.

Khue also advanced to the top 11 of Miss World 2015 after winning the People's Choice Award. The Vietnamese beauty was named the winner of the “Hoa Khoi Ao Dai Viet Nam 2014 – Duong Toi Vuong Mien Hoa Hau The Gioi” (Vietnam “Ao Dai” Beauty 2014 – Road to Miss World Crown) in early January, before being selected as Miss World Vietnam.

The “Hoa Khoi Ao Dai Viet Nam 2014” pageant was held for the first time in Vietnam to select the country’s representatives for three of the world’s most prestigious beauty contests – Miss World, Miss International, and Miss Supranational.

The pageant also boasted the country’s highest total prizes among professional beauty contests, according to its website.

The 1.76m young woman claimed the third prize alongside a Chinese winner and South Korean runner-up at the Asian Super Model Contest 2012, which took place in September 2012 in China.

The pageant's second spot was awarded to Russia's Sofia Nikitchuk, while the third place went to Indonesia's Maria Harfanti.
