-- The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicted on Tuesday that a strong cold spell will affect the north this weekend, bringing extremely cold weather to the north and north-central regions, with the possibility of frost in mountainous areas.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control reported that from January 27 to February 2, the city recorded 211 cases of dengue fever, marking a 59.9-percent decrease compared to the average of the previous four weeks.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has reported to the municipal People’s Committee that the city is currently short of 481 bus drivers who meet the driving license requirements under the new Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, which took effect on January 1.

-- Tran Minh Chien, chairman of the People’s Committee of Nha Trang City in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam, announced that he has directed the establishment of an interdisciplinary inspection team to visit a restaurant on Nguyen Thien Thuat Street, which has been accused by social media users of overcharging a Chinese tourist group. The restaurant reportedly charged VND1.89 million (US$74.7) for grilled eggplant with scallion oil, VND500,000 ($19.76) for stir-fried water spinach with garlic, VND325,000 ($12.85) for ‘pho’ (Vietnamese noodle soup with beef or chicken), VND250,000 ($9.88) for a portion of boiled rice, VND200,000 ($7.91) for two cans of Coca-Cola, and VND100,000 ($3.95) per can of Tiger beer.

-- Police in Quang Binh Province, north-central Vietnam confirmed on Tuesday that they dismantled a VND100 billion ($3.95 million) online football betting ring and arrested 11 individuals involved.

-- Garbage, including plastic bags, plastic cups, foam boxes, and crushed fruit, accumulated at the Lucky Market held annually on the sixth day of the Lunar New Year in Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam.

Business

-- The Office of the People’s Committee of Nghe An Province in north-central Vietnam announced on Tuesday that the province will allocate 210 hectares of land in Hoang Mai Town for the development of the Quynh Lap LNG power plant project, which has a total investment of $2.15 billion.

-- The Employment Service Center of Dong Nai Province in southern Vietnam forecasts that businesses in the southern province need to recruit more than 75,000 workers this year.

-- The National Competition Commission announced that it had fined FWD Vietnam Life Insurance Company Ltd. VND200 million ($7,905) for illegally enticing customers with misleading information and ordered the company to publicly correct false claims about its business, products, and services.
