An exhibition was launched in Hanoi this week to showcase several fine works by leading artists from across Asia.

The 'Fine Artworks of Representative Asian Artists' exhibition opened at the Vincom Center for Contemporary Art in the capital’s Thanh Xuan District on Tuesday and will run until November 25.

The event includes 81 pieces by 27 artists from 13 Asian countries and territories, including culture-rich nations that are unfamiliar to Vietnamese people, such as Nepal and Bangladesh.

The works presented by Vietnamese artists at the event include installations, sculptures and paintings, while the collection from foreign artists is comprised primarily of paintings.

Each piece draws attention to several emerging social themes, including environmental degradation, challenges facing traditional cultures in the era of globalization, the consumer society, and social networking.

According to Vietnamese Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition Department Director Vi Kien Thanh, who is also serving as the curator of the exhibition, this is the first time Vietnam has invited other leading Asian artists to showcase their works in Hanoi.

This is an excellent opportunity for Vietnamese art lovers to see the works produced by outstanding Asian artists, Thanh said, adding that the event is also expected to contribute to the expansion of international cultural and art exchanges.
