Forty-five contestants participated in the semifinal round of the Miss Universe Vietnam 2019 beauty pageant in Nha Trang City, the capital of the south-central province of Khanh Hoa, on Tuesday night.

The Miss Universe Vietnam 2019 is the fourth edition of the biennial national beauty pageant in Vietnam to select the country's representative for Miss Universe, one of the ‘Big Four’ major international beauty pageants.

From a list of 70 candidates in the preliminary stages in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the selection committee of Miss Universe Vietnam 2019 trimmed it down to 45 semifinalists to compete in three competitions including ‘ao dai’ (Vietnam's traditional long gown), swimwear, and evening gowns in Nha Trang.

Tuesday’s semifinal started at the Crow Center in Diamond Bay Resort at 8:00 pm when the beauties strolled down the brightly lit 60-meter diamond-shaped catwalk for the introduction part.

H’Hen Nie, Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 who made it to the Top 5 at the Miss Universe 2018 Pageant in Thailand, then sprang up to the role of a master of ceremonies to everyone’s surprise.

While Hoang Thuy Linh, a popular Vietnamese pop singer, performed her two hits that take inspiration from Vietnamese culture and literature, the 45 women graced the stage in the ao dai.

The contestants then showed off their physical beauty in swimwear, before donning elegant evening dresses for the final performance.

After the semifinal night, the judging panel will decide the Top 15, which will be announced during the final of the beauty pageant on Saturday.

The final of the Miss Universe Vietnam 2019 is set to also take place at the Crow Center in Diamond Bay Resort to pick out the winner to represent Vietnam at the Miss Universe 2020 competition.

Notably, the winner will be enthroned with a crown made of gold and adorned with 78 pearls and over 2,000 gemstones.
